Blackwell Burke P.A. attorney, Spiwe L. Jefferson, recently moderated a panel at the NAMWOLF 2020 Driving Diversity and Leadership Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The panel was focused on strategies and best practices in product recalls.
Panelists for the presentation included (from left to right) Elizabeth C. Rein from Wilson Turner Kosmo LLP, Spiwe Jefferson, Stephanie A. Douglas from Bush Seyferth PLLC, Katherine L. McDaniel from T-Mobile, and Sandra Rodriguez from Toyota Motor North America.
The panel discussion covered critical aspects of managing recalls, including addressing financial and reputational risks, navigating the applicable legal framework, dealing with regulators, resolving evidentiary issues, and employing best practices in defending the resulting claims and litigation.
“Whether in a highly regulated industry or not, recalls are often complex to plan and manage. An ideal strategy takes all aspects into account from logistics to corporate communications and the proactive development of a litigation and risk mitigation plan of defense,” said Jefferson, who has managed litigation and recalls both in the in-house and law firm environments.
The panelists brought their collective in-house and outside counsel experience to bear in a lively and engaging conversation with the attendees, handing out exemplars from past recalls.
