Blackwell Burke P.A. founder, Jerry W. Blackwell, was named 2008 Minority Business Owner of the Year by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. He was honored at the Minority Business Awards, which were emceed by FOX 9 NEWS anchors, Alix Kendall and Tom Butler. He was selected for recognition as one of the Twin Cities’ top minority business owners, and for making a difference in his profession, the local business community, and the community at large.

As a business owner, Jerry is invested in creating a work environment in which every employee is appreciated, and accountable for performing in accordance with the firm’s core values; respect for the individual and the firm, excellence, diversity, innovation, and commitment to community.

In setting an example of commitment to community, Jerry has co-founded a variety of organizations that continue to benefit the legal profession and the Twin Cities. For example, a chapter of the National Bar Association, the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL) promotes and supports the professional development of Black lawyers, judges, and law students in Minnesota. The Minnesota Minority Corporate Counsel Program was established to improve the hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments, and the Twin Cities Minority Job Fair connects high performing minority candidates with potential employers.
