Blackwell Burke P.A. to Host First-Ever CLE in Minnesota Specifically Addressing Biases Faced by LGBT Litigators

Blackwell Burke P.A. attorney Emily A. Babcock is organizing the first CLE in Minnesota history to address biases faced by LGBT litigators.  The CLE entitled, “The Unique Issues Facing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Litigators,” is co-sponsored by Blackwell Burke and the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association.  Panelists will include Ellie Krug, nonprofit executive director, retired lawyer, and author; Michael Ponto, Faegre Baker Daniels partner; David Potter, Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP partner; and Amy Slusser, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi associate.  Ms. Babcock will moderate the discussion.  The CLE will take place at Blackwell Burke on Wednesday, May 29, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.  Attendees may receive 1.5 hours of elimination of bias CLE credits.

Ms. Babcock was recently honored at the 2013 American Bar Association Section of Litigation Annual Conference. She was selected by ABA leadership as an Outstanding Subcommittee Chair for the 2012-2013 Bar Year for her work with the ABA Section of Litigation LGBT Litigator Committee. Ms. Babcock has served as publications co-chair for the committee, authoring several articles for the LGBT Litigator newsletter and contributing regularly to its news and updates blog.

Emily A. Babcock joined Blackwell Burke P.A. in 2012.  Ms. Babcock is a summa cum laude graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, where she served on the William Mitchell Law Review, led the school’s Environmental Law Society and American Constitution Society, and helped form the William Mitchell Self-Help Clinic. Before joining the firm, Ms. Babcock worked at the Minnesota Court of Appeals, clerking for the Honorable Kevin G. Ross and the Honorable Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks. Ms. Babcock’s practice is focused on complex litigation and class action defense.
